Ghosts in the Bible

In the bible, there are several references to ghosts. In this article I will share these with you. The bible makes
reference to ghosts, the belief in ghosts and speaking to the dead.

I Samuel chapter 28, Saul was preparing for a battle with the Philistines and when he saw the armies before him, he
was frightened and had his servants find a medium to help him. The medium helps him to contact Samuel who was
dead. “And Samuel said to Saul, why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up?”  In this verse Saul is speaking with
the spirit of Samuel, who tells him that he will be joining him on the morrow, meaning he will be dead from the battle.
Job chapter 4:14-17 fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake. Then a spirit passed
before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up. It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof. An image was
before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice saying, shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a
man be more pure than his maker?

In the New Testament there are several references to spirits.

Luke chapter  24 :36-39
Jesus appears to the disciples and they are frightened and supposed that they had seen a spirit. He said to them
“Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself :handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as you see
me have.

Mathew chapter 14:26 “And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, it is a spirit ;
and they cried out for fear.” This is in reference to Jesus walking on the water to save the disciples from the stormy
sea.

Mathew chapter 27:52-53 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose. And came
out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
Mark chapter 9:4 and there appeared unto them E-li’as with Moses and they were talking with Jesus. Moses and E-li’
as were not alive at this time.

Hebrews chapter 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses…. I
believe this cloud of witnesses to be the spirits of those that have died and watch over us.

These are examples of Spirits or Ghosts in the bible. I believe that the early Christians were very aware of Ghosts
and believed that they existed. I also believe that they believed it was possible to speak with the dead and that the
dead are watching over us and at times can offer advice and comfort in our time of need, and are a part of this world.
